Easy Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

November is here and all of the holiday gathering invitations are starting to arrive. There will be lots of delicious food and drinks at every single one of these festive events. Every year we get emails from our readers telling us that they gained anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds due to their over indulgence in holiday foods. But guess what? You can have a fabulous time at all of your holiday parties and stay slim, trim and fit. Here are some fit tips for keeping the holiday weight gain away.

1. Don't have too much alcohol.

Too many drinks will add lots of extra calories and make you more likely to over eat. Be careful with sugary drinks and egg nog One 6 ounce glass of egg nog can pack on as many as 1200 calories!

2. Bring Something to the Party

Many times you don't know what people use in their recipes. Make your favorite entree or low cal dessert. Your food will be both delicious and healthy!

3. Practice Portion Control

Try everything. That's alright. Just don't try everything at once and in giant portions. Keep in mind that a serving size is about half a cup. Also, if you are going to try everything, have mini portions.

4. Have Fun!

Remember that you are only human and these are the holidays. If you feel you've had a bit too much, don't be too hard on yourself. Do a few more minutes of cardio or take a longer walk at lunch time. Just remember to laugh, mingle and have fun!
